چکیده
Abstract Ideonella sakaiensis ( I. ) can grow on polyethylene terephthalate (PET) as the major carbon and energy source. Previous work has shown that PET conversion in presence of oxygen released dioxide water while yielding adenosine triphosphate (ATP) through oxidative phosphorylation. This study demonstrates is a facultative anaerobe ferments to feedstock chemicals acetate ethanol absence oxygen. In addition PET, pure monomer ethylene glycol (EG), intermediate product ethanol, carbohydrate fermentation test substance maltose also serve fermenting substrates. Co‐culturing with electrogenic acetate‐consuming Geobacter sulfurreducens produced electricity from or EG. newly identified plastic process by provides thus novel biosynthetic route produce high‐value waste streams.

The migration of antimony (Sb) from polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottling for acidic juices have been assessed in this study. Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometric (ICP-MS) method was chosen for antimony content determination. Experiments were undertaken at different conditions (15, 25, 35, 45days at 25, 50°C for first use bottle, reused bottle). Two different acidic juices (lemon j...

The conversion of the petrochemical polymer polyethylene terephthalate (PET) to a biodegradable plastic polyhydroxyal-kanoate (PHA) is described here. PET was pyrolised at 450 degrees C resulting in the production of a solid, liquid, and gaseous fraction. The liquid and gaseous fractions were burnt for energy recovery, whereas the solid fraction terephthalic acid (TA) was used as the feedstock ...
متن کاملAntimony leaching from polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic used for bottled drinking water.
Antimony is a regulated contaminant that poses both acute and chronic health effects in drinking water. Previous reports suggest that polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastics used for water bottles in Europe and Canada leach antimony, but no studies on bottled water in the United States have previously been conducted. Nine commercially available bottled waters in the southwestern US (Arizona) ...
